to Canada and Then... Evidence from the marriage record tells us that the parents of Jean-Baptiste Sirard, François and Marie Noël Laurent, were from the parish of Tressaint, diocese of Dol in France. Jean-Baptiste married Marie-Ann Brien (also spelled as Bryent) dit Desroschers in the parish of Saint-Pierre-du-Portage (now L'Assomption), Québec, Canada, on 12 November 1753. One descendent of this union, Avilla (later called Oliver), born in St. Esprit on 14 August 1856, left Canada in late 1870s or early 1880s, came to California and married Marie Sophie Gauthier. The Sirard family, and the Gauthiers, are my mother's family and constitute our French connection. There are many more names to be found as these two families are traced from the present to their past. We go to Germany with the Doerr (now called Dorr) family, to Ireland to greet the Bradleys (and one of the French connections as it turns out), to Scotland to visit with the Clan Gunn and to make additional trips to England from where the Robinsons come. This is a collaborative project of a father and a daughter. A work in progress that never seems to be finished and one for which there never seems to be enough time. If you have a connection to the larger "famille Sirard" and would like to contribute to our effort and share your history with others we would be more than happy to welcome you and make this truly a family project. If we have information that will help you in your search we will be happy share it with you. |

When you view the "Family Tree" and visit the Family Pages you will note that the first family to be displayed is that of Louis Sirard and Clair Cadot. They were the parents of my great grandfather, Avilla Sirard, who was born in Saint Esprit in 1856 and who then came to California sometime in the late 1870s or early 1880s. The Index of Names pages give immediate access to the page of the family named. Access to the family pages through the Surname Index begins with the names in alphabetical order. |

We
owe our beginnings in the search for our Sirards to three Catholic priests, two of whom share the Sirard name and we want to give credit to them here. Père Léas Sirard Père Andre-Marie Syrard Père Eduard Bussieres |
